WORLD PIPE BAND CHAMPIONSHIPS TEAM

NSW Highlanders Pipe Band will be competing in the 2014 Worlds.

Pipers and drummers interested in joining our 2014 Worlds Team should contact us now. Practice will begin in early 2012; venues and a schedule is currently being prepared.

Worlds Team members are welcomed from a vast area of N.S.W. so practices are held once a month. There will be a considerable amount of travelling involved but due to alternating practice venues most members should only have a "long trip" every three months. Competition experience is also a key factor in our preparations and we aim to support most contests held in N.S.W. See our calendar

“........ We marched onto the arena, nervous but proud and we played well. As we played our last bar and came to our unison if not perfect finish, the overwhelming wave of emotion came over me as none other has ever before. The resounding Aussie, Aussie, Aussie from the crowds ringing in our ears, I had a genuine patriotic feeling that will stay with me forever. The relief of achieving our goal and playing well was a joyous overwhelmingly emotional moment. Thank God (and I did), we did it!

I will be forever grateful to the N.S.W. Highlanders for this wonderful opportunity they gave me. It was a period in my life that I will never forget. The work and preparation, the friends made and finally the achievement of our objective.”

Into Arena 7, Glasgow Green

At 9.35am the band marched into Arena 7 on Glasgow Green and finished 13th out of a heat of 18 bands. All members performed well in a, somewhat, overwhelming atmosphere. Pictured above left, John Ralph helping out on the green

The NSW Highlanders were fortunate to have a 31 member support crew, all enjoying the day and cheering on the only Aussie band to attend this year.

"It's the biggest pipe band competition in the World, 8000 pipers and drummers and 50000 spectators. It was an amazing experience just being there" Joshua, support crew

The band also performed at Dumbarton Castle and a special gathering in Yoker. Some members performed with the Vale of Athol Pipe Band in Pitlochry while others performed at the Falkirk Wheel (pictured below) and some made an impromptu performance at Rosslyn Chapel. (pictured below right)

“Playing with the NSW Highlanders has allowed me to improve my playing by focusing on competition requirements and having exposure to some very experienced tutors. Playing in the Worlds was a great experience and very much worth the effort. Highly recommended”

Ray McIntosh,

Ingleburn RSL Pipes & Drums
